Andes Iron calls for an end to the endless litigation over the Dominga project
Following the unanimous and categorical ruling issued yesterday by the First Environmental Court of Antofagasta in favor of the Dominga Project, Andes Iron expresses its hope that both authorities and environmental organizations will uphold Chile’s institutional framework and acknowledge the importance of ending the prolonged cycle of administrative and judicial proceedings that have delayed major investments in the country.
The Dominga Project has been validated in every technical and judicial instance to which it has been subjected. In 2017, it received a favorable Consolidated Evaluation Report (ICE) from the Environmental Impact Assessment System (SEIA). Moreover, on three separate occasions, including this latest ruling, the Environmental Court of Antofagasta, composed of nine different judges in total, has confirmed that Dominga fully complies with environmental regulations.
After nearly twelve years of proceedings consistently demonstrating the project’s technical, environmental, and legal soundness, Andes Iron calls for regulatory certainty to enable its prompt implementation. As an investor, the company reaffirms its commitment to dialogue with authorities and local communities, promoting the sustainable development of both the mining sector and the Coquimbo Region.
Dominga is a modern project designed under the highest sustainability standards, with a strong partnership with the local community, the vast majority of whom support the initiative. It will produce high-grade iron and copper concentrate, prioritizing the use of renewable energy to help reduce the global carbon footprint and contribute to planetary decarbonization.
