Dominga participates in Global Compact webinar: “forward faster to achieve the sdgs”

Andes Iron played a prominent role in the webinar “Forward Faster to Achieve the SDGs”, organized by the Global Compact and broadcast via Emol TV, which has become one of the most viewed, with nearly 150,000 views.
The event addressed the challenges faced by the private sector in achieving the United Nations 2030 Agenda Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It was hosted by Margarita Ducci, Executive Director of the Global Compact, and included presentations by Empresas Iansa and Tresmontes Luchetti, who shared their experiences and objectives.
“In a constantly evolving world with increasingly urgent global challenges, the business community is uniquely positioned to drive meaningful change toward a more sustainable future. Achieving the SDGs by 2030 requires leaders and thinkers willing to transform the world. The Forward Faster initiative seeks, across five areas, to secure corporate commitments toward specific goals, while also increasing accountability and transparency by publicly declaring these commitments,” introduced Margarita Ducci.
The Forward Faster program aims to accelerate progress in six key areas for achieving the SDGs: Climate, Gender Equality, Peace and Justice, Decent Work, Water, and Sustainable Finance.
Representing Andes Iron, Corporate Affairs Manager Francisco Villalón noted that from the inception of the Dominga Project, during its pre-investment and pre-construction phases, the company decided to adopt the strategic framework of the Global Compact and the SDGs. “There is a firm belief that 21st-century mining can be conducted in harmony with environmental care and respect for communities, setting ambitious goals from the outset,” he said.
“Dominga’s goal is to produce iron, but not just any iron: high-grade iron that helps decarbonize steelmaking. The project will rely entirely on seawater, meeting 100% of operational needs and providing supply for the community. Local hiring is a priority, with 30,000 jobs expected during construction,” Villalón added.
The executive also highlighted that the Dominga Project acknowledges communities’ right to benefit from mining activity through initiatives that improve quality of life. The project will incorporate clean energy into its processes and allocate resources to study green hydrogen production in the Coquimbo Region.
