First group of Dominga interns graduates
As part of its ongoing commitment to expand employment opportunities in the Coquimbo Region, Dominga has taken another important step by welcoming the first group of interns from the Mining Operations Technical Program at Liceo Jorge Alessandri Rodríguez in La Serena.
“We are very pleased to welcome these young people to our company. Their presence allows us to strengthen our commitment to the Coquimbo Region and the commune of La Higuera through the development of a sustainable project that prioritizes local men and women. This achievement reflects the strong partnerships we have built with educational institutions across the region,” said Francisco Villalón, Corporate Affairs and Sustainable Development Manager at Andes Iron.
Of the nine students, six are from La Higuera and three from La Serena. They completed 360 hours—equivalent to two months—of practical training that included sampling, sample reduction, and inventory management.
This initiative is part of Dominga’s long-standing community engagement program in the region, which today fosters collaboration with various secondary and higher education institutions to promote sustainable regional development.
“I would like to work at Dominga.”
“I chose to do my internship here because the project is starting from the ground up, and there’s so much to learn. I want to study mining engineering and work at Dominga because it’s an exciting project that will be very important for the region,” said Martina Araya, one of the interns.
“We’ve felt really valued because we’re the first group to do our internship at Dominga. This experience is a great opportunity for our professional future,” said Luis Álvarez, a student from the commune of La Higuera.
“I have felt very welcomed, and I have learned to work as part of a team on subjects I didn’t know before. I would like to continue studying mining engineering and, in the future, work at Dominga,” said Lissette Álvarez, a student from La Serena.
