Global Compact Chile Launches Regional Council in Coquimbo

At a ceremony held at the Monumental Lighthouse in La Serena, Global Compact Chile officially launched the Coquimbo Regional Council, a body aimed at coordinating collaborative efforts on sustainability among businesses, the public sector, academia, and civil society in the region.

Margarita Ducci, Executive Director of Global Compact Chile, praised the creation of this regional forum and the local momentum behind the initiative: “We are thrilled that Coquimbo now has its own coordination forum to advance toward sustainable development.”

Among the companies that make up and drive the Council are Andes Iron (Dominga), ISA Energía Chile, CIDERE Coquimbo Region, and Minera Los Pelambres.

Representing Andes Iron, Francisco Villalón, Manager of Corporate Affairs and Sustainable Development, emphasized that regional efforts must focus on specific local

challenges: “fighting poverty… combating extreme drought… alongside education and employability,” placing “human beings at the center.”

The Regional Councils function as a territorial chapter of the network: they coordinate local actors, prioritize the region’s social and environmental challenges, and advance a common roadmap. With Coquimbo, Global Compact Chile adds a new regional space to connect the global with the local.
