Fishermen’s unions and Dominga invite you to the third edition of the loco festival in Caleta Hornos
This is a long-standing summer tradition in this coastal town in the La Higuera commune. Everyone is cordially invited on Sunday, February 23rd, starting at 10:00 AM at the cove's pier, where more than 5,000 people are expected to come and enjoy this delicious seafood.
More than 5,000 people are expected to gather at the Caleta Hornos Pier on Sunday, February 23, for the third edition of the Fiesta del Loco — an all-day celebration starting at 10:00 AM. Dominga, together with local fishermen’s unions and community organizations, has extended an open invitation to both tourists and locals to join this traditional event and enjoy the most delicious preparations of the region’s star product: the loco.
A total of 5,000 servings, featuring ceviche, empanadas, and fresh loco salads, will be handed out free of charge to attendees. All this will be accompanied by artistic performances that will make you dance, sing, and experience an unforgettable day with a privileged view of the Pacific Ocean.
Francisco Villalón, Andes Iron’s Manager of Corporate Affairs and Sustainable Development, extended a cordial invitation for this third edition to be as successful as the previous ones. “Our commitment and our proposal for sustainable development is closely linked to artisanal fishing, entrepreneurs, and the productive development of this community rich in natural resources that we want everyone to know about. That’s why we support this popular festival, which promotes tourism, positions local products, and strengthens their commercialization. We are very proud of the collaborative work we are doing with a large part of the commune’s artisanal fishing sector, and we’re confident that we’ll continue to make progress.”
“We want the region, the country, and the world to know about our fishing village, which is known for its delicious, high-quality seafood and exquisite cuisine. The fishermen and social organizations will be waiting for you to join us on Sunday, February 23, and to be surprised by the beauty of our surroundings and the warmth of our people,” invited Mario Flores, President of the Panamericana Norte Caleta Hornos Fishermen’s Association.
“This event is very important for our entrepreneurs. We have more than twenty high-quality restaurants, and residents from La Serena and Coquimbo visit our commune throughout the year, and we hope they will do so again next weekend,” said Andrea Flores, President of the La Higuera Chamber of Commerce and Tourism.
JUST 30 MINUTES FROM LA SERENA
This beautiful coastal village is a must-visit destination this summer. Located just 30 kilometers north of La Serena, right alongside Route 5 North, Caleta Hornos is home to more than 300 fishermen and sea workers. While loco (Chilean abalone) is the main product cultivated in their managed fishing areas, they also extract a variety of other resources such as limpets, clams, razor clams, sea squirts (piure), as well as rockfish species such as conger eel, pomfret, jack mackerel, among others.
